This is a lengthy step by step tutorial on modeling an abstract table shape in Sketchup, using quad modeling / subdivision techniques. We go through the process of building the table base and I try to explain how to dissect a shape and how to approach how to use low poly lofting (with Curviloft) as the starting point for our SubD mesh. There are a bunch of other little tips and tricks along the way, which can be used for modeling anything and everything. The main point of the lesson is to remember always think ahead......and that your initial splines are the most important step to any SUbD modeling we do. Remember, every endpoint will become an edge loop. Always draw your profiles with your edge loops and subdivisions in mind. Limit your segments in your profile to as little as possible .....just enough to support the shape. Let the subdivision algorithms make the curve flow.
