Learn how to make a willow Swedish Star with Lily of the East!

What do you need:
24 rods of willow
8 zip ties
wire cutters
a bundle of raffia

Step 1. First get 6 rods of willow

Step 2. Separate into pairs having each rod facing opposite directions

Step 3. Zip tie the top and the bottom

Step 4. Gently pull apart your pairs so you slowly manipulate the willow into the shape you want

Step 5. Get your first rod facing right and insert it close to your bottem rod. Go under 2 rods, over 2 rods and back under 2 rods

Step 6. Do the same again with a left facing rod

Step 7. Move half way up your rods and insert a new rod facing right. Go over 2, under 2 and back over 2. Repeat with a left facing rod.

Step 8. Turn your piece around then grab a new rod facing right and insert it trough, under 2, over 2 and under 2. Repeat with a left facing rod.

Step 9. Make sure they’re all central in the middle then zip tie the 6 rods together on each side.

Step 10. Take a new rod facing right and go under 2 rods, over 8 and under too like shown. Repeat whit a left facing rod.

Step 11. On the other side do the same again, right under 2, over 8 then under too and then repeat with a left facing rod.

Step 12. Add a new rod in the middle, go over 4, under 4 then over 4 again. Repeat with left facing stick.

Step 13. Tie the six rods together on either side with a zip tie.

Step 14. Grab a new rod , first take the right facing rod and go under 2, over 14 and under 2 again, Repeat with left.

Step 15. On the other side do the same again, under 2, over 14 and under 2 with your right and left facing rods.

Step 16. With your last 2 rods in the middle it doesn’t matter how you put it through as long as it looks right to you. Here after reconsidering we went over 4, under 2, over 6 then under 2 and back over 4 with both a left facing and right facing rod.

Step 17. Now tie both ends with a zip tie.

Step 18. Almost there!

Step 19. Then cut the length of the zip ties off.

Step 20. Go around your star trimming the ends how you would like them.

Step 21. You can then wrap the raffia around the zip ties to hide them. Here we’ve done it two different ways but get creative and do what you like the look of!

Step 22. Now you have your own Swedish Star!
