It's about time for an upgrade! This tired, seven year old HP Envy Phoenix 810 is in desperate need of a refresh. In this video, we take a look at how to take an aging and underperforming OEM relic and turn it into a modern, mid-tier gamer in just a few steps. We'll review how to replace the dried out thermal paste, upgrade a case fan, install a new SSD, and upgrade the GPU. All with simple, easy to understand explanations.

The results of this transformation were outstanding. By replacing the GPU, we were able to seriously improve gaming performance, taking frame-rates on the Heaven benchmark from the mid teens to over 80 fps. Our tweaks to the CPU were minimal, but they were enough to counteract the impacts of our larger GPU disrupting the thermals within the case. We saw roughly equivalent performance in the Cinebench R23 benchmark. Finally, with boot times we saw the biggest change. Our previous hard drive took 3 minutes to boot, but after upgrading to an SSD, we were able to boot, log in, and begin gaming in under 30 seconds.
