FIP in cats - three initials that strike fear into every cat owner who knows how deadly this disease can be. While the virus that causes FIP is incredibly common, up until now treatment has been hopeless. thankfully, there could soon be a brand new treatment that offers an infected cat a much better chance of survival.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis is the result of a mutation in an otherwise common, yet relatively harmless, cat-specific coronavirus. This then results in either "wet" or "dry" FIP - syndromes that differ by symptom but are equally deadly.
A new treatment with a human antiviral drug may, however, mean a cat suffering from FIP could quickly recover - something that's unheard of up to this point.
