In an unprecedented Civil War in Syria, Rebel forces ousted President Al-Assad’s over 50-year-old regime. The rebel groups on Dec 08 took over the Syrian capital Damascus after President Al-Assad fled to Russia. Israel has been closely monitoring the developments in Syria even before the fall of al-Assad’s iron-fisted rule. Meanwhile, Israeli PM Netanyahu issued a stern warning to new Syrian leadership over allowing Iranian re-establishment. The Israeli Defence Forces on December 10 continues its areal operations targeting Syrian weaponry. Israeli Govt said that the airstrikes would continue for days to keep Assad's former arsenal out of hostile hands. Israel planes bombed at least three major Syrian army air bases that housed dozens of helicopters & jets in the biggest such wave of strikes. Qamishli air base in northeast Syria, Shinshar base in countryside of Homs & Aqrba airport southwest of capital Damascus were all hit. As Israel carried out its air offensive in Syria it also heightened its security at the Syrian border. The IDF troops entered swiftly into the UN-designated buffer zone in Syria though it denied deeper incursion. Israel welcomed the fall of Assad, an ally of its main enemy Iran, but has reacted cautiously to the leading rebel faction, HTS.
