On July 26, as Water Protectors awaited the release of arrested Water Protectors who had been violently arrested out of ceremony, tensions erupted. One Indigenous Water Protector was tackled to the ground, handcuffed and dragged back to the station and two other Water Protectors arrested in the confrontation have been held for two days, one charged with Felony.
Lakota People's Law Project work closely with tribal nations and nonprofit compatriots to amplify Indigenous voices, provide renewable solutions in place of fossil fuel consumption, protect the voting rights of Native people, and provide on-the-ground support when and where it is needed most.
