This video is about trekking the Gokyo Trek in Nepal and is meant to be a trek report and guide for anyone interested in hiking this beautiful trail in the Khumbu, Nepal's Everest Region. It's the first part of a two part series about our hike below the worlds highest mountains.
In late October 2021 we board a domestic flight in a tiny turboprop airplane from Kathmandu's domestic terminal to the infamous airstrip of Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest and widely considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world.
From there, we hike down to the Dudh Koshi, the Milky River. We follow it's valley up through beautiful towns and villages, such as Nurning, Phakding, Jorsalle and Monjo. On our way we cross the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge and climb towards the town of Namche Bazaar, often referred to as the capitol of the sherpa people, located at an elevation of about 3500 meters.
From there, we do a day hike to the villages of Khumjung and Khunde, admiring mountains such as Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Mount Everest, look at the worlds only yeti scalp, climb up to above 4000 meters and bushwhack our way back to our lodge.
Day four has us trek to the famous Tengboche Monastery and finally to the village of Pangboche.
Pangboche, sitting at about 4000 meters elevation, is our base for the hike up to Ama Dablam Base Camp. An insanely beautiful hike offering views of the Imja valley, Tengboche Monastery and Mountains like Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Mount Everest, Kongde Ri, Numbur, Thamserku, Kangtega and many more, as well as, of course, Ama Dablam, which must be one of the most beautiful mountains in the whole world!
