Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh will contest Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal seat, which has seen BJP candidates winning for nearly 30 years. "He (Digvijaya Singh) said you decide where should I contest from, so I decided. I said contest from Bhopal," CM Kamal Nath said on selecting the constituency for Singh.

Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani on Saturday said that actor-MP Paresh Rawal will not contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Rawal earlier tweeted that he had informed the party "months in advance" that he would not contest the general polls. Rawal had won from Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general polls by over 3.25 lakh votes.

Haryanvi singer-dancer Sapna Choudhary on Saturday joined the Congress party, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to reports, she will contest against Bharatiya Janata Party's sitting Member of Parliament Hema Malini from Mathura. Choudhary was inducted into the party at the Delhi residence of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Raj Babbar, reports added.

As many as 111 Tamil Nadu farmers will contest against PM Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections from the Varanasi constituency. Tamil Nadu farmers' leader P Ayyakannu said the decision was taken to urge the BJP to include in their manifesto that their demands would be fulfilled. He added if BJP assures them, they will not fight against him.

Transgender activist Bharathi Kannamma donned the avatar of Goddess Meenakshi as she filed her nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Madurai. She will be pitted against R Gopalakrishnan, AIADMK's sitting MP from Madurai. Earlier, Kannamma had expressed apprehensions regarding the date chosen for polling in Tamil Nadu, as it coincides with an annual festival of transgender people.
