If hearing the name Toyota 86 doesn't ring a bell, it may help to know that this was previously the Scion FR-S. This sporty and exciting coupe is appealing in so many ways. Check out these five reasons to buy the fun-to-drive 2017 Toyota 86.
Rear-Wheel Fun
Toyota made the 86 like a legitimate sports car, with rear-wheel drive. If you enjoy shifting, it's nice to know you get five extra horsepower than the automatic transmission. The manual kicks out 205 hp, while the automatic drops to an even 200 horses. But in either form, fun is sure to be had in the sporty 86.
Special Edition
Toyota gave the 86 a special edition called the 860. It's labeled the 860 because there are just 860 units of each color available. There are two colors, Supernova orange and Halo white, and they feature some unique styling and aerodynamic performance. Again, the 860 is very limited -- so get in line now.
Dazzling Style
The 86 has all the sporty design features you want in a sports car. A lower aggressive stance, long hood, automatic LED headlights and standard 17-inch alloys. There are also chrome-tipped dual exhausts and available LED fog lights. If you want to go even further on the design, you can also upgrade tires and rims -- and, of course, Toyota offers an array of add-ons and performance features.
Sporty Cabin
Inside, they definitely nailed the sporty feel. There are standard bucket seats that are actually pretty comfortable. Race enthusiasts will appreciate the standard folding rear seat which allows you to load up extra gear. Sitting up front, everything is well-positioned, like the tachometer and all of your controls and knobs.
Handling
Part of what makes the 86 so much fun is not raw speed, but the suspension and handling. The engine sits low to the ground, optimizing the center of gravity and delivering a balanced drive. The sport-tuned suspension and lightweight body definitely enhance the overall performance. Also, you do get a choice of automatic or a 6-speed manual.
Autotrader Says
Can you believe the 86 starts at around $26,000? Even the limited 860 start at less than $30,000. If you're ready for some sporty fun, be sure to test drive the 2017 Toyota 86.
