i think that these two are a couple who are taking over this territory. they have managed to eliminate Raimis. he would have returned by now if he could. Raimis is absent since March 27 evening!!
Info by Jānis Ķuze, Latvian Ornithologics
Although Raim's return to the nest cannot be ruled out, such a long absence of the male during this nesting season is certainly not normal and most likely indicates that the bird is either dead or seriously injured. We can only guess what the real reason is, and there are many options. Given the events of recent days, the plausible explanation is the intra-species conflict.
Now it will be a matter of Milda's patience and endurance, because she cannot do the job alone. If there is already a large baby in the nest, it could be fed by one adult bird, but incubation or heating of small pups cannot be combined with foraging.
Although successful nesting in this nest this year is unlikely, it will be interesting to watch further developments, given that other birds are showing an active interest in this nest. This is the first time in the long history of the Durbe nest that such a turn of events has been observed."
