Lee Carseldine is never averse to a challenge. In recent years, his greatest challenge has been Strokes' effect on his parents and family. Lee has used this adversity to create awareness and raise funds for the Stroke Foundation of Australia. This year Lee took it upon himself to set a challenge for the Stride for Stroke charity fundraiser. Lee's own challenge was simple, run from the top of Fraser Island to its southernmost tip, with 24 hrs and 19kgs in your backpack. Every 19 minutes, someone has a Stroke in Australia. The significance of this number would be with him at every step.
With a support crew on hand, Lee spent the next 26 hrs in hell. From early light to dark and light again, Lee made every step count. Accomplishing his challenge with his determination and care from the support crew. It may have been a little longer than expected, but it was an amazing feat and one I was glad to be part of.
Armed with a Sony FX3 and A7Siii, I charged into the sunrise with Lee all the way to the end. At times we all managed to get some rest, 15 minutes here, maybe 10 there. But it was limited and fools gold at best. Armed with a DJI Mavic Pro 2 and GoPro Black 10, we pretty much had all our angles covered. It was a great challenge for me, and awesome to see Lee push his limits to create awareness about Stoke and raise funds to help research and care for Stroke survivors.
