Haywood Community College is getting less money from the state this year because the new state budget changes the funding formula.
Money is based on enrollment over the last two years, instead of three years. The governor and lawmakers say enrollment three years ago was inaccurate because so many who lost jobs in the recession went back to school.
Haywood Community College says the new formula means a $213,000 loss to the school. The loss of funding could lead to fewer instructors and bigger class sizes. Some students say they end up paying the price.
