To our top story, and some 145 child soldiers have been freed by rebel groups in South Sudan. That's according to the UN's children's agency UNICEF. The children were released in the country's eastern Pibor region. Armed groups in South Sudan have in recent years been releasing child soldiers as part of a larger demobilisation effort. Hundreds have so far returned to their civilian lives. UNICEF says it's crucial that more education and skills training programs be set up to help these children in the long term. There are still an estimated 16 thousand children fighting in armed groups in South Sudan.
