Most Derma rollers are typically at least 0.5mm long. So those little rakes that are moved throughout the scalp, but 0.5mm long and up are actually considered a medical device in the United States. Because to penetrate through the epidermal layer, you typically need something at least 0.5mm long. And when you're passing through the epidermis and getting into the dermis, you are now in an area that is filled with active regrowing tissue. And there's a lot of blood that can actually transfer bacteria and other microorganisms throughout the surface of the scalp. If that's the case, when you're using a derma roller, you certainly can create infection if you don't derma roll or clean properly. So I don't particularly recommend people derma rolling regularly. There is a lot of research that says that it helps if you're going to do it. You should be seeing a medical professional who's going to either derma stamp or micro needle and do that once or twice a month.
