This video is about nutrient dense foods with relatively low calories that are great for anyone but especially people over 50! There is even one that helps with that waning libido ;-) As we age it is even more important to consume nutrient dense foods that are easy to digest. Here are just a few!
Please check with your doctor before trying out new foods or herbs especially if you have any chronic health problems or are on medications. Even simple foods can affect medication, for example many people can’t eat grapefruit if they are on certain medications.
You can find information about making infusions out of herbs on many websites now. But I first heard about it about 10 years ago from an herbalist named Susan Weed. I found her looking for additional information about menopause. She teaches the wise woman way, traditional knowledge that women, especially older woman knew to help themselves and their loved ones to live a healthy life. I don’t advocate for all her ideas but if you are interested in traditional health and herbs and the wise woman way check her out!

How I make Chicken Bone Broth
I buy the cleanest chicken I can afford, organic, pasture raised, or from a reputable source. I do not use pre-cooked chicken that has been roasting in plastic for hours!
Remove any bags of giblets.
Put the chicken in a baking dish with about an inch of water (you can season it or just bake it plain)
Bake the chicken at 350 for about 1.5 to 2 hours
Let cool
Strip meat off the bones (save any skin, tendons, everything else)
Save meat for anything you want to use it for
Put the skin, bones, cartilage, the juice from the bottom of the dish, everything, into a stock pot, cover with water, and bring to a simmer.
I add a tablespoon or so of vinegar to acidify the water (helps get nutrients out of the tissues)
Add any vegetables you want to flavor the broth or just leave plain
I simmer it for about 8 to 10 hours
Let cool
To strain I just use a large Pyrex measuring cup and “ladle out” the broth into a fine mesh strainer over a glass bowl. When I get to the end, I carefully pour out the rest being careful not to let any solid stuff get in the broth. I used to dump the whole thing over a strainer in a bowl, but it makes the broth cloudy and more “stuff” ended up in the broth. The ladle method keeps it clearer and cleaner. If your broth jells like Jello or is kind of thick as it cool that it great!!! That is all that good collagen!
Here are a couple of websites that I came across that have nutrition information for people over 50. Of course there are many more!
