Demo of the Bananana Effects Mandala and its 'Square Trigger' mode on bass guitar. A very cool and wild glitch pedal with 8 different modes and choice of foot control (normal on/off, or active only when you’re holding it down). Here I am using it in between compression/drive, and modulation/reverb, and the pedal is latched 'on' the entire song. The “duh-duh-duh” in between the notes I’m picking is produced by the Square Trigger mode on the Mandala – it repeats the last note you played, at the speed you choose, but as a square wave.
The pedal does a great job at letting your other pedals/tone through when appropriate, and it plays well with other pedals.
The functions of the knobs change depending on the mode you're in. Their purpose can vary drastically, so the learning curve on this pedal is a little steeper than I expected, but worth it.
If you're wondering, "Is this pedal too weird for songwriting?" the answer is Nope! It will take your sound in new directions, and inspire ideas you've never had before. Some modes are easier to 'time', however, which makes them much easier to use in songs with other instruments, like the drums here. The 'Square Trigger' mode shown here was one of my initial favorites for this reason. The repetitive notes (if you set it to 'Latch') immediately inspire rhythmic lines that are easy to play along to/build songs around.
