The runway test campaign of the unmanned combat aircraft developed by the Türkiye’s company Baykar is progressing at a good pace, achieving a momentary lift off the ground during takeoff tests.
The Kizilelma is an unmanned combat aircraft designed to carry out various military actions, such as air-to-air and air-to-ground offensive actions, air defense, escort, close air support (CAS), reconnaissance and intelligence, suppression of enemy air defenses. . . (SEAD), and the destruction of enemy air defenses. It was designed and built by a renowned Turkish unmanned systems manufacturer under the MIUS (for National Unmanned Aerial Combat Systems) (OFF) program.
The autonomously navigating Kzlelma will be able to work alongside piloted combat aircraft armed with air-to-air missiles and a built-in AESA radar for defense.
The aircraft will have a high operational altitude and a takeoff weight of 5,500 kilograms (12,125 pounds). It is estimated that it can carry 1.5 tons of payload, fly for five hours, and accelerate to 800 km/h (500 mph or Mach 0.64). An AI-322F turbofan engine from Ukrainian business Ivchenko-Progress powers the aircraft.
