The farmer is called the king but .. to whom should we tell our plight? Tears were shed that the six winters had destroyed the hard-harvested crop.
The villagers are terrified by the roaming of the elephants. No matter how many times I complain to the forest officials about the elephant shortage, there is no response. In one or two cases, farmers and locals lost their lives in elephant attacks. Some were injured while chasing the elephants. Forest officials are yet to respond and want the elephants to stay out of crop fields and villages.
Vijayanagaram and the adjoining Srikakulam districts are bordered by Odisha. That is why elephants often roam the crop fields and villages like this. Farmers and locals are trying to chase away the elephants as the authorities ignore them.
