Meet Yurii, a Ukrainian truck driver, working for Girteka Logistics Lithuania. One of the biggest transport companies of Europe. During the pandemic Yurii was cross-crossing Europe with loads for companies such as IKEA and AMAZON.
Through the fault and the callous attitude of Girteka, Yurii almost died while being on the road. Even though there are European laws and regulations to protect drivers against malicious behaviour from their employers, Yurii lived in his truck for 11 months nonstop. Even after reporting to his employer that he was exhausted and sick he was pushed to deliver his cargo. As a result he collapsed on a parking on Christmas evening. And there is way more to tell……
Girteka Logistics has committed themselves to the United Nations Global Compact standards intending to safeguard human rights and fair employment conditions Despite of these nice intentions Yurii almost died and Girteka has taken no responsibility to remedy his situation.
Who will push Girteka to put their oh-so-reassuring United Nations sustainability reports into practice?”
