Exciting news in the world of breast implants!
The FDA has officially approved Motiva Smooth Round Silk and Round Ergonomix Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants for patients aged 22 and older. While Motiva has been a popular implant brand internationally for over a decade, these implants are making their way into the US market, and here's everything you need to know about them.
Motiva's implants are known for their microtextured surface, which is much softer compared to traditional macrotextured implants. This is a key difference, as the FDA's 2019 recall of Allergan’s macrotextured implants was linked to an increased risk of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Motiva’s microtexture is far less aggressive, and in fact, the company has now developed an even finer surface with a textured depth of less than 5 microns, which they claim reduces inflammation and capsular contracture risks.
In this video, we’ll:
- Explain the FDA approval of Motiva’s implants for US use and what this means for patients.
- Compare smooth vs. microtextured vs. macrotextured implants and discuss the differences in surface textures.
- Talk about the history of Motiva and how they’ve worked to address concerns regarding BIA-ALCL.
If you’re considering breast implants, it’s essential to understand the different options available and consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to find the best fit for your needs.
