Patriots were used to protect vital sites against 39 Scud missile attacks during the conflict in 1991.

Overlooking this small desert town in Israel are rolling hills, but if you look more closely, Patriot missile batteries now stand on guard.
Israeli troops rolled in Monday to install the anti-scud missile devices which gained fame during the 1991 Gulf War.
With Saddam Hussein defying fresh warnings from U-N weapons inspectors about Hussein's arsenal of weapons, the anti-missile batteries provide both the Israeli army and citizens with a sense of safety.
During the 1991 Gulf War, Iraq fired 39 Scuds at Israel, killing two citizens and injuring hundreds of others.
Patriot missile batteries were deployed then, and lives were saved, although even officials at the missile's American manufacturer say they aren't perfect.
The deployment was low key - with business continuing as usual in the nearest town, Arad.
