The formidable #husbandandwifeteam Arnolodo Vargas and Maricela Ponce-Vargas (with incredible community support) have restored, preserved, and protected a landmark 1979 mural on the El Mercadito Market in east Wilmington.
Dubbed “Chicano Heritage,” the artwork is on Los Angeles’ historic landmark murals list. The three-panel acrylic scenes depict Mexican revolutionary imagery, featuring portraits of #EmilianoZapata and #JoseMariaMorelos.
Originally painted by Javier Moreno, a Wilmington artist who died four years ago, and Mario Falcon, an artist from Mexico, the mural has fallen victim to the ravages of time, weather, and graffiti.
