CAPTION: An Ohio home exploded into flames early Wednesday, killing a woman and her grandson in a blast that was heard miles away and leaving nothing at the site but a large crater filled with debris. (March 2)

AN OHIO WOMAN AND HER GRANDSON ARE DEAD AFTER AN EARLY MORNING EXPLOSION SO POWERFUL THAT IT TOSSED THEIR BODIES FROM THEIR HOME.
((Ron Balca, eighbor SOT: It was dark and I just seen a little bit of orange and it just seemed like their lights were on in the windows then all of sudden the flames came up. I mean, the house was already gone and the flames had started to burn then within 5 minutes they were 30 feet in the air))

THE BLAST...WHICH ONE NEIGHBOR SAYS SOUNDED LIKE A PLANE CRASHING IN HIS BACKYARD...COULD REPORTEDLY BE HEARD IN AS MANY AS 3 NEARBY COUNTIES.

THE ONLY PIECES OF THE STRUCTURE LEFT BEHIND ARE THESE CHUNKS OF WOOD AND INSULATION.

FIRE CREWS WERE STILL DOUSING THE WRECKAGE HOURS AFTER THEY FIRST ARRIVED...
WHILE THE VICTIMS' RELATIVES WALKED THROUGH THE NOW EMPTY LOT IN SHOCK.

THE EXPLOSION SCATTERED DEBRIS OVER MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND YARDS AND DAMAGED SEVERAL NEARBY HOUSES...LEAVING AT LEAST ONE OF THEM UNINHABITABLE.

FIRE OFFICIALS SAY THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION...
BUT THEY BELIEVE IT WAS RELATED TO A PROPANE TANK INSIDE THE HOME.
