Civil Rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton joined with others on Capitol Hill on Monday to decry the Trump administration's policy of separating immigrant families at the U.S. - Mexico border.
Sharpton called the policy "bigoted" and said it violates the families' civil rights.
"I do not believe that President Trump would implement this at the Canadian border and do this to white children," Sharpton said.
"There is the inference here that because these are children of color that there is a different policy for them and that he is playing hardball with the futures of these young people."
Others called on President Trump to end the policy.
Yet Trump is standing by his administration's decision to split children from parents trying to enter the country.
