This tutorial focuses on preparing imported data so that you can better analyze and review the data without issue. Particularly, the clean function focuses on removing nonprintable characters. This does not remove all weird or problem characters from a cell, but it gets you much closer to having "clean" usable data.
One of the great things that the clean function does remove is the Alt+Enter spaces that are used within a cell to add new-lines within a single cell.
Clean can also help to remove weird characters that did not import correctly into Excel.
