◾️DURRËS, ALBANIA: After leaving Vlorë, my next travel destination I was visiting was Durres. Durres, Albania, is the nation’s second biggest city with a population of approximately 115,000 inhabitants.
When visiting Durres, the very modern feel and up market atmosphere is very apparent and it clearly appeals to those travellers that like luxary. However, this was not always the case as the city has gone through many issues over the years. Most notably in 1991, with the collapse of communism in the country many Albanians overran the port of Durres and forced their way onto boats to head to Italy illegally. It was noted that on 7th March that year, there had been an estimated 20,000 people cross the Adriatic Sea on small vessels from the port of Durres. As you can see, today in 2022 the city of Durres is a popular tourist destination and is not a place where thousands are trying to flee from.
Even though the city is now looking very modern and there is a lot of contemporary developments going on within Durres, the city still holds onto its roots and is a very historical place. Durres itself dates back to the 7th century BC and there are many ancient buildings, sites and relics you can see here.
So is Durres worth visiting? I hope you enjoy watching this video and decide the answer to that question yourself.
