STORYLINE :
Many Muslims in Indonesia celebrated the feast of Eid on Tuesday, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
In the capital Jakarta, tens of thousands of Muslims from the Muhammadiyah community flocked to mosques and open spaces to perform Eid prayers.
Muhammadiyah, the second largest Muslim community in Indonesia, has always celebrated Eid earlier than the government, which is backed by the largest Muslim community, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
This year, the government has determined that the final day of Ramadan will fall on Wednesday 31 August.
In Indonesia, a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Eid al-Fitr is known informally as Lebaran.
Lebaran is the most important national holiday in Indonesia, lasting up to two weeks, with the exact date determined in accordance with the observations of the position of the moon.
Millions of Muslims in Indonesia use the occasion to gather with family in their hometown.
