Piran, Slovenia, is one of the most underrated cities I’ve ever visited. Originally part of the Republic of Venice, I definitely noticed the Italian influence during my visit to Piran. I can only describe Piran as Venice without the water and canals. There are plenty of fun things to do in Piran, Sovenia.
Piran can easily be reached via bus from Ljubljana and other major cities. Although there is no train to Piran, it is less than a 30-minute bus ride from Koper. Koper has daily trains to and from Ljubljana, which allows the opportunity to connect to any place in Europe.
I spent about five hours total in Piran. The main sights I visited were the Port of Piran (Piran Harbor), Tartini Square, the Adriatic Coast, St. George’s Cathedral, and the Piran City Walls.
Be sure to visit the Bluff that St. George’s Cathedral sits atop, as it offers a great view of Taritini Square and the Adriatic Sea. For those with good fitness, consider climbing a large hill to access the Piran City Walls. The Piran City Walls offer the best view of Piran, and visiting them is a must for influences and Instagrammers.
