What happens after a car accident that's not your fault.

Well, in a perfect world, you speak to the insurance company for the person that hits you.

You give them your medical bills. They inspect your car and determine whether it's a total loss or it can be repaired.
The insurance company takes care of it, and you're done in no time.

Of course, it's not a perfect world, and sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to.

The insurance company may dispute the injuries as not being related to the crash.

They may dispute the bills or not want to pay for some of the medical bills.

They may dispute the value of your vehicle if it's a total loss or the cost to repair it.

The insurance company may even dispute that you're at fault based on something that the defendant told them. So that could cause further delay.

On top of disputing the damages in the case, the insurance company could delay or make a totally unreasonably lowball settlement offer.

So even though you're not at fault for the car accident, it might not be smooth getting your case resolved.
