After the city's daily positivity rate jumped to 10% from under 5% last month, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to nearly double its current tally of Covid-19 tests, in some cases without the individual's permission. On Friday, Mumbai's daily case count reached a new high of 3,063 individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus.
The city government has set lofty goals for conducting daily Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) in all malls, bus terminals, railway stations, and administrative wards. Anyone who refuses to take the test or is found to be uncooperative will be charged under the Epidemic Act 1897. Following a day of decline, the daily count of coronavirus cases in Pune increased dramatically on Tuesday, with 5,741 new infections reported. This is the city's second-highest number of new cases during the pandemic. The highest number of cases ever reported was 5,939 on September 10 of last year.
