The Temple of Apollo at Didyma (Didim, Türkiye) is one of the largest and most grandiose ancient temples ever built.
The original building started as early as around 300 BC and was never fully finished.
Even after invading armies conquered this area, and local people pilfered the temple as an above-ground quarry, the Temple of Apollo is a true wonder of the ancient world and a monument to the test of time.
At the end of the fifteenth century, an earthquake reduced the temple to rubble, collapsing all but three of the columns we see today. Originally, there were 120 columns that each stood about 60'.
