Ride to castles:
Schauwenbuerg - The lords of the old feudal castle largely contributed to the fame of Bertrange: Henri de Bertrange sealed the "letter of freedom" of Echternach (1226) and Rolling of Bertrange that of Luxembourg (1243). The castle was built in several stages, the part overlooking the street in the 18th century (Year 1710 inscribed on the main facade) and the east and north wings in the 16th century (windows from the Renaissance period).
Château de Koerich - Located in the small valley of the Goeblange stream, is one of our most typical lowland castles. With its impressive keep, its external walls forming an almost perfect square, it constitutes with the Baroque church and the old houses of Koerich a remarkable group. It was Wirich I, lord of Koerich, seneschal of Luxembourg, who undertook the construction of the castle towards the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th. The dungeon (known as the witches' tower) and the exterior walls are in late Romanesque style.
Burg Simmern - It is no longer possible to determine exactly when a first castle was built in Simmern (Septfontaines). What the historians know: In 1192 a certain tider appeared as Herr von Siebenborn in a document. In 1233, Johann von Simmern placed his property under the rule of Ermesinde. At the beginning of the 14th century, Thomas von Siebenborn, friend and companion of Emperor Henry VII, was the lord of Simmern. In 1600, Christoph bon Criechingen had a massive Renaissance tower built at the north entrance.
