The world is moving towards a low-carbon economy.

Doing its part, the #Faraday Institution funds research into how we can adapt electrochemical energy storage for batteries (more specifically for electric vehicles).

The overall goal is to recycle at least 95% of the materials in the battery, which is extremely challenging.

The ReLib project in particular is designed to tackle any legal, regulatory and technical problems to make way for a recycling industry for Lithium-ion batteries in the UK.

There are hazards associated with Lithium-ion batteries, which explains the shift towards automated processing. Integrating robotics into the process may help reduce the hazards as well as allow us to recycle the batteries economically.
