This 10th century temple is one of the largest temples in India's deep south. Built originally by the Cholas, many future additions were made to it by the Pandyas, Cheras and the Nayaks. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is located in the village of Brahmadesam, which in its hey days used to the capital of this region. Like the Brihadeeswara temple of Thanjavur, the theme of this temple seems to be on size. The temple is spread over a large area with a really tall gopuram and many small gopurams. It is also home to a 7 feet high Nandi monolith. It is one of the top temple attractions near Kallidaikurichi and Ambasamudram
