One-third of Pakistan is inundated as floods sweep the length and breadth of the country, submerging entire towns and displacing millions. The heavy monsoon rains that began in June amount 3 times Pakistan’s 30-year average. Over 1,200 people have died, and more than 6,000 are injured. Floods have damaged more than 1.1m houses across the country, swept away 243 bridges, and dented over 5,000km of road. 3.6m acres of crops and orchards have been affected. 80 districts across Pakistan have been declared calamity hit, amid high flood warnings along parts of the Indus River, notably between Taunsa in Punjab and Kotri in Sindh.
