Gobekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe have yielded new discoveries. Recently, archeologists uncovered new statues at both sides, one a wild boar which still retains traces of red, black and white pigements, indicating it and possibly other statues at Gobekli Tepe were once painted. At Karahan Tepe, a statue of a vulture and of a human figure holding their phallus were uncovered in well-preserved conditions. The human figure still contains carved ribs and much like the related site at Sayburc which contains the oldest narrative releif carving in the world, features a human man holding their phallus. Phallus shaped pillars had already been discovered at Karahan Tepe, thus, this better links the sites which are around 11,000 year old. Researchers believe these phallus oriented depictions reflect a progenitor from which the people of Gobekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe and the Sayburc site are likely descended. Who this figure is, whether mythological or historical is unknown. But hopefully further clues remain waiting to be unearthed.
