Hello everybody, this is Jeff, at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the ShockStrap 18-foot long Ratchet Tie-Down Straps, with the Shock Absorbers, for a quantity of two straps. Now these shock absorbing ratcheting tie-down straps will let you secure the cargo in your truck bed or your trailer. I did wanna zoom in on the unique feature of these straps, which is these urethane shock absorbers right here, you can see. These are designed to help absorb any impact to ensure constant tension to the strap, even as your load shifts. These shock absorbers are made of a urethane-based material.
They'll stand up to extreme temperatures, to salt water, moisture, oil, and most chemicals. And if you notice they're attached to the straps by using the sturdy Grade 8 bolts, and the nylock nuts that'll hold the shocks in place. If you notice on the very backside here, it has this extra strap, this they call is a safety strap, and it's actually designed to perform two purposes. First one, it'll give you an extra strap if for some reason these shock absorbers would break, so it's a safety feature. Now for these shock absorbers to break would be highly unlikely, 'cause the manufacturer says they would have to stretch 18 to 20 inches to even have a chance of breaking, and you'd never get 'em to stretch that far.
But still, they do have this strap as a safety feature. Now, the second purpose of this strap is it acts as a tension limiter, so you don't over ratchet the strap. Basically, once you hook up your straps and you tighten it down with the ratchet, as you keep tightening it up and the absorbers would stretch, this strap will get closer. What that'll let you do is they tell you that if you take your hand and slide your fingers through there and then slide 'em out, that'll give you the correct tension on the strap. So once you're getting tightening it down, as long as you can stick your hand in there and slide it out, that'll give you an idea of how much to tighten it.
Now, these straps are made in the USA to military grade specifications, and they are DOT, Department of Transportation approved. Now because of this unique shock absorber feature, these straps are great for securing your cargo that has a suspension system that could compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain. So they will work great for tying down snowmobiles, motorcycles, utility tractors, ATVs, UTVs, 'cause those vehicles have movement with their suspension systems. In other words, when you tighten 'em down, if you hit a pole or a rough terrain, it could cause the suspension to go up or down and it could loosen your straps. With this shock absorber system it won't loosen the straps.
This shock absorber will always keep tension on the straps. Now the ratchet mechanism right here you can see, it's made it easy to tighten each strap and maintain tension on the strap. It has a nice large handle and a release lever, ensures nice, simple, safe operation. Even if you're wearing thick, heavy gloves, you can still operate this handle. Now, minimum usable length, the least amount of strapping ability use is 32-inches. But I just wanted to show you, let's zoom back out and you can see just to ratch, all you have to do is lift up on it. And as you lift up, you can see that it pulls in the strap. And then what's nice is to release it, to pull out any length of strap that you need, all you have to do is pull up on this lever here in the middle, the release lever. And that'll release the handle, and then just move that handle all the way out of the ratchet mechanism to where it'll lock in place. And then once you do that, it'll release the strap and you pull out as much strap as you need. You can just keep pulling it out once you get it far enough to hook it up, pull it on that lever again, hook your handle up to the ratchet, and just start ratching. So the straps are very easy to operate, very easy to hook up. Now on each end, gonna zoom back in one more time, just so I could show you the hooks on the end. These straps use the double-J hooks, have the very large wide openings to allow hassle-free connection to your anchor points. And they're the same on each end, the double-J hooks. And also on each end, they have this, so you notice this extra strap with the loop in it. These are integrated soft loops that can be used if you don't want these J hooks attached to your cargo, to help prevent damage. So in other words, if you're tying down maybe your motorcycle and you're gonna hook these to your pane
