I walked downhill from my house in Capileira, along the main road. I passed Bubion and Pampaneira -- these are the three villages in the Poqueira gorge.
Then I followed the river back up to Capileira. The vegetation around Poqueira is very lush. The river is formed by a confluence of streams that originate close to the summit of Mulhacén, which is the highest mountain on the Iberian Peninsula.
There are several mills along the river, and numerous ruins of old farms on the mountain slopes above.
