Hello everyone! My name is Muhammad Faqi Arisandi, and today I’m thrilled to present my midterm project, which is all about Promoting Batik on a Global Scale.
Why did I choose this topic? I chose this topic because Batik is a fundamental part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage. It’s more than just a piece of fabric it represents stories, history, and traditions that have been passed down through generations. Despite its importance in our local culture, Batik is not yet as widely recognized or celebrated internationally as it deserves to be. This is something that I believe we can change, and that’s exactly why I’m here today.
What makes Batik so special? To give you a bit of background, Batik is an ancient art form that has been practiced in Indonesia for centuries. It involves a complex process of hand-dyeing fabric using wax to create intricate patterns. Each design holds a special meaning and reflects the diverse cultures of Indonesia. For example, in Java, you’ll find traditional patterns like Parang and Kawung, each with their own symbolism tied to history and philosophy. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Batik also carries deep cultural significance and often plays a role in important ceremonies, such as weddings and religious events.
Why do I want to bring Batik to the international stage? In today’s globalized world, we often see cultural icons like sushi from Japan, pizza from Italy, or kimono being recognized and appreciated everywhere. I believe Batik has the potential to be on this level, becoming a global cultural symbol that represents Indonesia. But for that to happen, we need to put in the effort to showcase Batik beyond our borders. We need to share the stories behind it, the artisans who make it, and the cultural richness it embodies.
Why is Batik important to the world? Promoting Batik on an international scale is not just about showcasing a beautiful piece of fabric. It’s about sharing a part of our identity and allowing the world to connect with Indonesian culture. When we share Batik, we share our traditions, our values, and our creativity. It’s a bridge that connects Indonesia with the rest of the world. Furthermore, in an era where people are seeking sustainable and ethical fashion choices, Batik offers a perfect solution. It’s handmade, often uses natural dyes, and promotes a slower, more mindful approach to fashion.
What is my goal today? My main goal in this presentation is to help you understand why Batik deserves global recognition and how we can work together to promote it effectively. I want to take you on a journey that not only explains the cultural and artistic aspects of Batik but also highlights its potential to boost our economy and contribute to more sustainable fashion practices globally.
