Propaganda was an incredibly persuasive form of communication during World War II and played a key role in influencing many Americans’ attitudes towards Japanese people. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States Government, along with other companies and organizations, were harsh in their portrayal of Japanese people, often exaggerating physical features and racial stereotypes that supported the inhuman way in which they wanted Americans to view their enemies. The anti-Asian sentiments spread throughout propaganda, which had existed in the US long before World War II, had major repercussions later in history, contributing to events such as Japanese Incarceration. To this day, anti-Asian rhetoric in the media is used to promote xenophobic attitudes and has resulted in an increase in violence towards Asian Americans.
