Rivian has announced that it has started production of its new Enduro drive unit, a major development for the company. The new Enduro drive unit is set to equip Rivian's R1T pickup and R1S SUV vehicles powered by the new Dual-Motor powertrain, which has been developed in-house. The company announced via Twitter that it recently started a next-gen drive unit production line, with the construction of the new line taking five months before production could begin.

This is an important milestone for Rivian as it means that the company will soon be able to start production of Dual-Motor AWD variants of the R1T pickup and R1S SUV. The automaker previously stated that the Dual-Motor vehicles would enter production sometime this year.

The Dual-Motor AWD powertrain is an impressive engineering feat that delivers remarkable performance capabilities. With its combination of two electric motors, it generates more than 600 horsepower and over 600 pound-feet (812 Newton-meters) of torque in standard guise, making it one of the most powerful electric powertrains on the market today.

However, for those who crave even more power, an Enhanced Dual-Motor AWD option is also available. This option provides an even more impressive output of over 700 hp and over 700 lb-ft (948 Nm) of torque, which is truly awe-inspiring.

It's worth noting that while the Dual-Motor AWD powertrain is incredibly powerful, it still falls short of the existing Quad-Motor powertrain's output of 835 hp and 908 lb-ft (1,230 Nm) of torque. This powertrain option is the most powerful offered by the manufacturer, and it delivers an unmatched level of performance that is sure to impress even the most demanding drivers.
