Easy and quick way to stiffen.
Recommended Proportions:
1 tbsp of starch per 1 liter of water – for softer products (e.g., crocheted napkins)
2 tbsp of starch per 1 liter of water – for products that need to hold a firm shape (e.g., lampshades)
Procedure:
1. Prepare the Solution: Start by boiling water—900 ml in my case. Then, mix 2 tablespoons of starch with 100 ml of cold water. Stir it well and add it to the boiling water. Stir thoroughly again. The liquid may turn slightly whitish, as it did in my case, so this proportion works better for lighter colors. Next, pour the liquid into a sprayer.
2. Spraying & Drying: Prepare your product by placing it on the desired shape holder or flat surface, depending on your project. Don’t forget to protect your furniture! Then, start spraying generously to ensure all the threads absorb enough liquid. Once you’re done, let it sit and dry. In my case, 24 hours was enough. Finally, carefully remove it from the shape holder and enjoy your perfectly stiffened product! Look how firm it is and how well the shape turned out!
Good luck with your projects!
