Better is the enemy of "good enough". My student taught me this quote, and it has really stuck with me. When learning how to fly paramotors, there are many new sensations. As an instructor, I want students to know that getting something exactly the way you want it is unlikely to happen, especially early on in flying. For example, with a landing, students shouldn't concern themselves with being exact in where they touch down; There is too much going on. We practice in a wide open space, so let's simply focus on getting down smoothly and flaring when you're just a few feet above the ground.
On landing, access the situation:
1) are you heading in a safe direction?
YES: Cool! Keep on gliding down.
NO: Change your heading with a gentle brake input.
The problem is that students often think, "I'm headed in a safe direction, but I could go in an even better direction."
NO!!!! Stop. Better is the enemy of "good enough". The glider was level, free of oscillations, and heading to an open area away from any obstacles. Simply focus on having a safe heading, floating down, and flaring just before you land.
