The MIG-29 is not suited to engage small targets such as the Shahed or cruise missiles since the aircraft's avionics and radar system are not very advanced. So F-16s are critical for Ukraine as an offensive strategy and to intercept missiles and cruise bombs beyond Ukrainian territories, potentially saving the lives of thousands of civilians.
