Five individuals, including a child, tragically died while attempting to cross the English Channel from France on April 23. The incident occurred after an overcrowded boat carrying approximately 110 migrants set off, aiming to navigate one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. Despite the French coastguard's ongoing search for survivors, the tragedy unfolded off the coast of Wimereux. Local prefect Jacques Billant reported that the boat's engine malfunctioned a few hundred meters from shore, causing several individuals to fall into the water. Rescuers promptly arrived, saving 47 people, with four hospitalized but stable. The remaining 57 migrants resumed their journey toward Great Britain.
