Romania and Bulgaria have been wanting to join the passport-free Schengen zone since January 2009, and now Austria agreed to lift its long-held veto. The two Eastern European countries had been fighting for Vienna's approval for years. The decision was revealed by the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council at a meeting in Budapest.
Euro Creative's managing director, Romain Le Quiniou, talked about the process and the reasons why countries admitted to the European Union in 2007 had to wait so long to join the Schengen zone.
