Bolivia and Chile continue to present arguments to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Netherlands regarding the two nations’ maritime dispute. The oral arguments center on territory that would give landlocked Bolivia access to the Pacific Ocean. Bolivia charges that it has been denied sovereign access to the sea through legal maneuvers, following the War of the Pacific in the nineteenth century. Chile, on the other hand, argues that the ICJ does not have jurisdiction over the case. The Court is not expected to decide until the end of the year whether or not it will take the case.
