Around 3-thousand students have marched across a university campus in Yogyakarta, demanding the removal of President Suharto.
The National People's Assembly is expected to re-elect the president next week.
Students across the country have been holding demonstrations in recent days calling for reform in the government.
Student political activism has been gaining momentum for the past week at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta.
Seven students have been on hunger strike and anti-government banners hang on various buildings around campus.
By the middle of the week the students were ready for a full-blown demonstration.
The numbers participating in Wednesday's march were impressive.
And their views were consistent - they want new leadership, including a new president.
Other student rallies were reported in Surabaya and Ujung Pandang.
But students here said theirs' was an independent action.
Police have tolerated the student rallies as long as they remain on campus, and the large Yogyakarta event followed the rules.
Students called on the masses to support their aims.

Habibie, the minister for Research and Technology, is expected to be elected vice president next week.
The youths accused the president's family and business cronies of corruption and making money on the sweat of the poorest Indonesians.
More student actions are expected in this south Javan city over the last days of the National People's Assembly.
