Maya Bay Thailand to re-open | "The Beach" film Island to re-open ❤️
The world famous Maya Bay where they filmed "The Beach” will open for tourism again in 2022.
Thailand is reopening its most famous beach and bay.
Maya bay was closed 3 years ago to give its damaged ecosystem time to recover from the effects of over tourism and pollution.
It was the setting for the 2000 movie “The Beach” which turned the cove on Ko phi Phi into a tourist hotspot.
Up to 6000 people visited by speed boat each day.
But crowds and pollution took a heavy toll on the local environment.
More than half of the corals in the area were badly damaged.
So in 2018 the Thai government closed maya bay to tourists to give the environment a chance to recover.
Today the government says the ecosystem is in good shape again.
It will open on the 1st of January 2022 but with limits in place.
Tourist numbers are to be capped at 300 per day.
They will be limited to 1 hour per visit.
Swimming will be confined to designated zones to protect reefs from further damage.......
