"Over my dead body," said General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, who headed Pakistan’s Eastern command, when asked about the possibility of a surrender to the Indian forces racing towards Dhaka. "Let them come, we are ready for them."
But Niazi was alive when he surrendered to the Indian forces barely a few days later in the brief 13-day India-Pakistan war of December 1971.
But an India-Pakistan war, nevertheless. So for those in Bangladesh who believe India should not remember its soldiers that died in that war, here's a question:
If it was a Pakistan-Bangladesh war, why did General Niazi surrender to the Indian Army?
